The Delaware crossing happened on the night of December 25, 1776. It was led by George Washington and was planned to be a secret surprise attack on the British troops. This was the first surprise attack the British would have in history and their risk of loosing became increased as theAmerican patriots begun these surprise attacks. This painting was a very important symbol for the American people and the future country. It symbolized their triumph victory against the British and after the Revolution it became a very popular painting symbolizing the American victory in the fight for Independence.
